Traffic, Port and Public Utilities Committee

This committee is in charge of the following:

  1. View, in coordination with the competent committees and authorities,  road construction projects and other projects pertaining to paving roads, developing streets, squares, public streets and public parking spaces;
  2. View, in coordination with the competent authorities, bridge and tunnel construction and maintainace schemes;
  3. View the construction schemes of schools, colleges, training centres and various educational institutions;
  4. Explore and examine, in coordination with the competent committees and authorities, the Council recommedations for the establishment of slaughterhouses, factories, markets, exhibitions, ports and wharfs for various kinds of ships; 
  5. Explore and examine the Council’s recommedations for the establishment of cemeteries, the selection of cemetry sites, the type and religious requirements of the cemeteries as well as the codes and rules governing cemetries;
  6. Examine, in coordination with the competent authorities, the Council’s recommedations for the establishment, development and maintainance of gardens, public parks, and recreation areas as well as examining beach protective measures;
  7. Give opinion and make observations concerning traffic and mobility management, the traffic executive bylaw and its amendments, except for cases that are not provided for by the UAE Federal Traffic Law NO. (21) of 1995;
  8. Taking into account it’s rules of jurisdiction, the committee shall make reccomendations with regard to improving the traffic flow performance and efficiency;
  9. Give opinion, in coordination with the other competent authorities, on the problems resulting from traffic congestions; 
  10. Taking into account the Emiri Decree NO. (21) of 2002 with respect to establishing Sharjah Public Transport Corporation with the exeception of light vehicles used for personal use, this committee shall approve of permits issued to drive all medium and heavy duty vehicles used for buisnesses;
  11. Taking into consideration the jurisdiction rules of the committee, the Council shall have the right to assign this committee any other tasks related to traffic;  
  12. Examine any other issues that the Council refers to the committee.
