Committee On Offences Against Health Services and Enviromnetal Protection.

 

This Committee is in charge of the following:
 

  1. Investigate the best municipal practices for roads, squares, and  public streets sweeping as well as the best beach cleaning practices;
  2. Examine, in coordination with the relevant stakeholders, the regulations that would ensure the sanitation and protection of the environment from pollution by means of waste collection, selection of landfill sites, waste disposal and recycling of waste in accordance with the most recent scientific and economic practices;
  3. Examine the regulations governing animal housing and the selection of sites for livestock barns and aviaries. The adopted regulations shall also apply to loose and stray animals and the disposal of dead animals in a manner deemed both relevant and appropriate. The committee shall further develop the existing legislation governing those regulations;
  4. Examine, in coordination with the relevant stakeholders, the regulations governing the local stores and the buisnesses and shops in the Industrial Area linked to alarming health risks and hazards.The same regualtions shall aslo apply to street vendors;
  5. Give opinion, in coordination with other committees and competent organs, on the measures to control and prevent begging and other phenomena contrary to the regulations and traditions;
  6. Follow up the implementation of the Council’s resolutions and legislation  in relation with health services and environmental protection;
  7. Observe shoreline protection and conservation measures against pollution caused by oil, and fishing and natural mortality as well as marine conservation;
  8. Recommend, in coordination with the competent authorities, regulations governing public health;
  9. Control, in coordination with the competent authorities, the implementation of laws and regulations pertaining to food intended for human and animal consumption;
  10. In light of the above, the committee shall receive relevant complaints and recommendations;
  11. In light of the above, the committee, in coordination with the competent authorities, shall recommend offences regulation and fines related to sanitation and environmental protection;
  12. Examine any other issues that the Council refers to the committee.
